Function / Content

This series consists of a register recording the distribution of level books and field books to surveyors, and a description of the contents of each book relating to the Darwin water supply. The register also includes information about drafting supplies. The main register consists of two sections, level books (pages 1 -12) and field books (pages 15-26). The pre-printed column headings in the volume are not used as they relate to calculations (e.g. bearing, distance, etc). Instead, the following handwritten headings are substituted; no. [level book or field book number], date, surveyor, description, and taken by. The date ranges for the entries each section are: May 1936-29/9/1938 (level books), and April 1936 - ca1939 (field books). The pages in the back of the register were used to record the dates of receipt of drafting and mapping supplies, including helio linen and blueprint paper. This section has entries for the period 26/9/1938 - 16/7/1940.
